Julia Fox Defends Blood-Stained Jackie Kennedy Halloween Costume Amid Backlash

Model and actress Julia Fox has sparked a major debate online with her choice of Halloween costume: a replica of the pink Chanel suit worn by Jackie Kennedy on the day of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination, complete with simulated bloodstains. The controversial outfit drew immediate criticism, including from Jackie Kennedy’s own grandson, who called the display “disgusting, desperate, and dangerous.”

The historical reference is one of the most somber in American history. After President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas in 1963, Jackie Kennedy famously refused to change out of her blood-stained suit, stating, “I want them to see what they have done to Jack.” She wore the outfit during the swearing-in of Lyndon B. Johnson, transforming her personal trauma into a powerful, public image of grief and resilience.

Fox’s decision to recreate this specific moment for Halloween was met with widespread disapproval online. Social media users described the costume as “uncomfortable and unacceptable,” “in poor taste,” and “completely tone deaf.” The criticism culminated in a scathing statement from John Schlossberg, Jackie Kennedy’s grandson, who condemned the outfit.

In response, Fox took to Instagram to defend her choice, insisting it was not a “costume” but a “statement.” She framed Jackie Kennedy’s action as “an act of extraordinary bravery,” arguing that the former First Lady was “weaponizing image and grace to expose brutality.” Fox described the look as “performance, protest, and mourning all at once,” intended to celebrate “how femininity itself is a form of resistance.”
