Cockroaches are one of the most unwanted guests in any home. They often hide in dark, damp places like basements, kitchens, or closets. Once you see one, it’s likely many more are nearby. Not only are they unpleasant to see, but they can also carry germs and cause allergies, so getting rid of them quickly is essential.
The good news is that you don’t have to spend a lot on chemicals or call pest control to deal with these pests. A simple, cost-effective homemade solution can help you get rid of cockroaches safely and effectively. All you need is boric acid and an egg yolk.
Start by mixing three tablespoons of boric acid with one egg yolk until you form a thick dough. Then, scoop small amounts and roll them into balls. Let these bait balls dry on wax paper for about an hour so they harden a bit and won’t fall apart easily.
Place the dried balls in places where cockroaches like to hide—under the fridge, beneath sinks, behind cabinets, laundry rooms, and other cool, dark, and moist spots. The egg yolk attracts the roaches while the boric acid, which is toxic to them, kills them after ingestion by disrupting their stomach and nervous systems.
Keep in mind, if you have children or pets, be careful where you place these balls to avoid accidental ingestion. Safe locations like inside cabinets or behind appliances are best.
You might need to repeat this process once or twice, as female cockroaches can lay many eggs and new pests may hatch. After a couple of rounds, you should notice a significant drop, eventually clearing your home.
This method is safer, cheaper, and less harsh than commercial sprays or fumigation, making it a great DIY option for anyone looking to control cockroach problems with ease and peace of mind.
