Anderson “Chase” Childers, a former Georgia police officer and ex-professional baseball player, lost his life while heroically rescuing swimmers caught in a strong rip current off Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
The 38-year-old jumped into the ocean alongside another bystander after hearing distress calls for help and managed to save a family of five. Tragically, Childers was pulled under by the powerful current and drowned that afternoon.
His selfless act unfolded in front of his wife and three children. Authorities and community members honored his bravery, and a GoFundMe campaign supporting his family has raised over $230,000. Childers is remembered as a devoted father and husband whose final moments showed incredible courage and love.
