With Ozempic’s popularity surging, new side effects are surfacing. Some women have reported what’s now called “Ozempic vulva,” involving changes to the vaginal and vulvar area.
Ozempic, used to control blood sugar in diabetes and help with weight loss, slows stomach emptying and creates long-lasting fullness. While nausea and stomach issues are common side effects, women are now noting sagging skin, muscle weakness, and dryness in their intimate areas.
Dr. Tahery explains these effects include sagging outer labia, weaker vaginal muscles, and vaginal dryness. Users on Reddit and other platforms have shared similar experiences.
Rapid weight loss associated with Ozempic can cause overall skin sagging—including around the vulva—leading to an aged or deflated look, says Dr. Justin Perron. The drug’s targeting of muscle mass might also affect pelvic muscles.
Gynecologist Dr. Melanie Bone points out hormonal changes and dehydration linked to Ozempic can cause vaginal dryness and irritation.
Some women have turned to genital rejuvenation with dermal fillers to restore lost volume.
Though not officially listed, this side effect deserves attention. Awareness can prepare users and healthcare providers for potential changes.
