Tragic Final Message from Pregnant Teen Found Dead in Boyfriend’s Backyard

Kylee Monteiro, an 18-year-old who was 11 weeks pregnant, was reportedly stabbed to death by her 22-year-old boyfriend, Gregory Groom. Prosecutors say Groom then buried her body in his grandparents’ backyard, hiding the crime beneath branches and cut trees.

Just hours before her death, Kylee sent a chilling text to her sister Faith, saying, “He threw me on the ground, and pulled my hair and strangled me. My phone’s at 4 percent if I die, it was Greg.”

The next day, Groom reported Kylee missing to police in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. He claimed Kylee had left a residential program recently and stayed at his home after taking a rideshare on August 6. He said they argued about her living situation, and she left later that day.

Concern grew when Kylee, who regularly posted on social media, suddenly stopped sharing updates. She had announced her pregnancy on TikTok and praised Groom as someone who treated her “like gold.”

Faith Monteiro told CBS News that despite public speculation, domestic abuse was not believed to be part of their relationship.

Police launched a large search on August 8. Initially, Groom was charged with assault and witness intimidation, but the case escalated after he allegedly confessed. Prosecutor Jason Mohan said Groom admitted to stabbing Kylee twice in the neck and once in the chest after a fight behind a shed. He dragged her body about 20 yards and buried it five feet deep.

Groom even made a rough map to show authorities where her body was hidden. Search teams found disturbed earth concealed by branches near the shed. Despite this, Groom pleaded not guilty and remains in custody, with a probable cause hearing set for September 10.

Kylee had recently graduated from Attleboro High School. It is uncertain if the unborn baby was Groom’s child.

Family friend Kira Schofield expressed her grief, saying, “She wanted to be a mother. She was so happy.” Faith, struggling with loss, shared, “I lost my sister, and I will never see her again or say goodbye.”

Described as outgoing and loving, Kylee was known for her care for animals and joyful spirit.

Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn offered condolences and asked for patience as the investigation continues.

The community is organizing a Vigil of Hope on August 23 at 7 PM in Rehoboth to remember Kylee Monteiro’s life.
