A doctor has issued a serious warning against popping pimples in a particular area of the face known as the “triangle of death.” While squeezing spots isn’t usually extremely dangerous, doing so in this specific region can carry serious risks.
The “triangle of death” covers the area from the corners of your nose down to the corners of your mouth, including your nose. This zone is connected directly to the brain through a network of veins called the cavernous sinus, located behind your eyes.
Dr. Suraj Kukadia, who shares advice as Dr. Sooj on TikTok, explained that popping a pimple in this area could potentially lead to a deadly infection. Bacteria can travel from an infected spot through veins into the brain, causing a rare but life-threatening condition known as cavernous sinus thrombosis — a clot or infection in the brain.
Although the odds are low, Dr. Sooj strongly advises against squeezing spots in this zone because the risk, however rare, is not worth taking.
He also highlighted warning signs to watch for if a spot in the triangle becomes red, swollen, or painful, especially if accompanied by fever or spreading swelling. In such cases, immediate medical attention is crucial.
Instead of popping pimples, Dr. Sooj recommends treating them gently with topical creams or warm compresses and allowing them to heal naturally.
Being cautious in this part of your face protects your brain from potentially dangerous infections.
