Elizaveta “Liza” Gushchina, a 45-year-old mother of two, was celebrating her birthday with a thrilling bungee jump off an abandoned boiler tower in Pavlovsk, near St. Petersburg, Russia. After successfully completing the jump, during which she shouted with joy and swung on the elastic rope, she climbed back up to take a selfie with her son. Tragically, she slipped on a wet platform without safety ropes and fell 290 feet to her death.
Her 23-year-old son Nikita, who had gifted her the jump, witnessed the heartbreaking accident. The extreme sports club they belonged to mourned the loss of an experienced jumper and member of their team. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine if safety protocols were properly followed.
