Kentucky Cheerleader Charged After Infant Found Dead in Closet

Laken Snelling, a 21-year-old University of Kentucky student, was arrested after authorities found an unresponsive infant wrapped in a towel inside a black trash bag in her off-campus residence. Police say Snelling admitted to giving birth and concealing the birth by cleaning up evidence and disposing of items used during delivery.

Snelling faces charges of Abuse of a Corpse, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Concealing the Birth of an Infant. The Kentucky native, who studied Interdisciplinary Disability Studies and was a member of the university’s STUNT cheerleading team, has pleaded not guilty. Her court hearing is scheduled for later this month.

Before her arrest, Snelling was reportedly dating former college basketball player Connor Jordan. The infant’s cause of death remains inconclusive, with authorities conducting thorough investigations, including autopsy tests. Snelling is currently under home incarceration with her parents in Tennessee after posting $100,000 bond.
