Dylan Jay Watts, a 28-year-old father from Broulee on New South Wales’ coast, passed away unexpectedly on March 22, 2025, just days before his 29th birthday. Known among loved ones for his deep devotion to his son, Dylan’s life was tragically cut short by a severe bacterial infection that ravaged his lungs, leaving 72 holes that would never repair.
His sister Caitlyn shared the harrowing progression, revealing that his lung condition worsened drastically from just two holes detected in 2021 to an unimaginable 72 by mid-2024. Despite intensive medication and a long three-week hospital stay after a lung hemorrhage, Dylan’s health continued to decline.
The infection caused relentless symptoms including chronic coughing, exhaustion, and reflux, making daily life difficult. Friends and family were shocked by the sudden deterioration despite Dylan’s optimism and resilience.
In the final days, Dylan was cared for at home by his mother Suzanne and his puppy Polar. He passed peacefully five days after returning home. A GoFundMe campaign was launched by family friend Cheyenne O’Brien to help with funeral costs and support his grieving loved ones.
Dylan’s story is a reminder of life’s fragility and the importance of cherishing every moment with those we love.
