Kimber was described by her sister, Ashley, as a warm and friendly person with a sweetness that drew people in, balanced by a fiery spark and determination. She was actively involved in her school, not only as a cheerleader but also as a track runner, and she had big plans to attend the University of Alabama to pursue a career in nursing. Her ambition was a direct reflection of her innate desire to help and care for others, a trait that would define her final chapter.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when a 27-year-old man, Steven Tyler Whitehead, arrived at the bonfire. After a verbal and physical altercation, he allegedly fired multiple shots. Kimber, along with three other young adults, was struck. She was rushed to the hospital, but the damage was too severe. Her family was faced with the devastating reality that she would not recover.

In that moment of unimaginable pain, Kimber’s family remembered her wishes. They made the selfless decision to honor her desire to be an organ donor. As her sister explained, they did not want to cause her any more pain and knew that helping others was what Kimber would have wanted. This decision turned a story of tragedy into one of hope and life.
