According to a neighbor, the scene was chaotic and disturbing. Alyssa Castro reported that a woman, later identified as Mock, approached her and her boyfriend’s vehicle covered in blood. “There was a woman who approached [their] vehicle with like blood, like her hands were filled, her body was filled with blood, asking to call 911,” Castro told local media. After requesting a phone, Mock returned to the house and placed the call to authorities herself.

Upon arrival, police found Mock waiting outside the home with cuts on her hands. Inside, they discovered her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. Avers was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead just 30 minutes later. According to Sedgwick County dispatchers, Mock stated during the 911 call that she “stabbed her mother to save herself,” though the precise context and motive for this statement remain unclear.

Mock was arrested at the scene and has been booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. Her bond has been set at $1 million. Anita Avers was a practicing marriage and family therapist at Wichita Counseling Professionals, as confirmed by her husband. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the tragic incident.
