In a shocking turn of events, a $9 million Malibu mansion owned by businessman David Steiner has miraculously survived the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. Despite being surrounded by ravaged homes and buildings, Steiner’s property remains untouched, leaving many to wonder how it withstood the inferno.
The Palisades fire has ravaged over 20,000 acres of land, destroying more than 5,000 homes and businesses. Strong winds and a lack of rain have exacerbated the situation, with authorities suspecting that the fire was intentionally started. A man has been taken into custody on suspicion of arson.
Steiner’s mansion, which was vacant at the time, was thought to be doomed when flames engulfed the surrounding area. However, the 4,200-square-foot, four-bedroom home was “built like a cruise ship,” according to Steiner, with ultra-sturdy construction, a fireproof roof, and pilings that extend 50 feet into the bedrock.
Steiner credits the mansion’s resilient design for its survival. “I never imagined a wildfire would jump to the Pacific Coast Highway and start a fire,” he said. While he is grateful that his property survived, he acknowledges that he is among the fortunate ones in Los Angeles.
Steiner’s mansion was not his family’s primary residence, and he has insurance to cover some of the potential damages. However, he recognizes that many others have lost their homes and cherished memories. “My sympathies are with those who have lost their homes,” he said.
