President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to wildfire-stricken areas of California will not include Senator Adam Schiff, who has cited pressing responsibilities in Washington, D.C., as his reason for staying behind. A spokesperson confirmed that Schiff must attend nomination votes, making it impossible for him to travel to Los Angeles with the President.
Schiff, however, acknowledged Trump’s effort to personally witness the wildfire destruction and thanked him for the invitation. He reaffirmed his dedication to working with the Trump administration, state officials, and bipartisan lawmakers to ensure that California receives the assistance it needs to recover.
This trip is Trump’s first in his second term and focuses on regions where natural disasters have caused severe damage. His agenda includes a visit to Los Angeles, devastated by wildfires, and North Carolina, where Hurricane Helene left significant destruction.
Trump has been critical of how the Biden administration handled relief efforts following Hurricane Helene. Speaking to reporters before departing the White House, he promised swift action and expressed disappointment over the delays in addressing the crisis since the hurricane made landfall in September.
