Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is under fire after making comments about former President Donald Trump attending the Super Bowl. The Chiefs are set to face the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans this Sunday, and Trump’s announcement that he’ll be at the game has sparked a wave of controversy.
During a press conference, Kelce was asked about Trump’s attendance and responded with enthusiasm. “That’s awesome,” he said. “It’s a great honor, no matter who the president is. It’s the biggest game of my life, and having the president there would be pretty cool.”
While Kelce’s comments were seemingly apolitical, they didn’t sit well with everyone. Many of his girlfriend Taylor Swift’s fans were quick to criticize him, given Swift’s history with Trump. During the 2024 presidential election, Swift endorsed Kamala Harris, which led to a public feud with Trump. He took to social media to express his disdain for Swift, even suggesting that her career would suffer as a result of her political stance.
Swifties were quick to call out Kelce for his remarks, with some accusing him of being “spineless” for not standing up for his girlfriend. Others, however, defended Kelce, suggesting that his comments were likely a strategic move to avoid alienating the Chiefs’ ownership, who are known Trump supporters.

As the Super Bowl approaches, the debate over Kelce’s comments continues to rage. Whether this will have any impact on his relationship with Swift remains to be seen, but it’s clear that the intersection of sports and politics is as divisive as ever.
