Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY – 24) has proposed a bill that could make June 14 a federal holiday. The date, which is already celebrated as Flag Day, also marks Donald Trump’s birthday. The legislation, H.R. 1395, would combine the two occasions into a single holiday called “Trump’s Birthday and Flag Day.”
In a news release, Tenney praised Trump as one of the most influential presidents in modern American history. She highlighted his role in brokering the Abraham Accords, passing significant tax relief packages, and leading the nation through challenging times. According to Tenney, Trump’s contributions have been so impactful that he deserves recognition alongside figures like George Washington, whose birthday is already celebrated as a federal holiday.
Tenney also emphasized the importance of honoring the American flag, especially as the country approaches its 250th anniversary. She believes that combining Trump’s birthday with Flag Day would create a meaningful way to celebrate both the president’s legacy and the symbol of the nation.
Currently, Pennsylvania is the only state that recognizes Flag Day as a legal holiday. If the bill passes, it would mark a significant change in how the day is observed nationwide. Tenney, a longtime ally of Trump, has been a vocal supporter of his policies, particularly on immigration and job creation. However, she has expressed mixed feelings about some of his trade policies, such as the tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
The proposal has already sparked debate, with some applauding the idea of honoring Trump’s contributions and others questioning the need for another federal holiday. As the bill moves through Congress, it remains to be seen whether June 14 will become a day to celebrate both Trump and the American flag.
