Kevin, a 42-year-old single father from Fife, Scotland, is no stranger to the dating scene. But what sets him apart is his refusal to compromise on his standards. Kevin is upfront about his preferences: he won’t date women he finds unattractive. While some might see his stance as harsh, Kevin believes it’s simply a matter of knowing what he wants and sticking to it.
For Kevin, physical appearance is a key factor in attraction. He’s drawn to women with long hair and a curvy figure, though he admits he’s not a fan of ponytails. He knows his standards make finding a partner more challenging, but he’s willing to accept that. “It’s not easy to find someone who meets all my criteria,” he says. “But I’m not willing to settle for less. I’d rather be alone than with someone who doesn’t meet my expectations.”
Kevin’s dating journey has been a mix of highs and lows. He was in a committed relationship in 2023 and has dated on and off over the years. However, his most recent relationship, which began in late 2022 after meeting someone on TikTok, lasted only a month. Kevin’s sobriety adds another layer of difficulty to his dating life. Since he doesn’t drink, he doesn’t frequent bars or pubs, which are common places to meet people. He’s also unimpressed with dating apps, where he says many matches don’t respond or don’t meet his standards.
Despite the obstacles, Kevin remains firm in his decision not to settle. “I’ve tried lowering my standards before, and it didn’t work out,” he says. “I won’t do it again.” He’s content with his choice to stay single and sees it as a lifestyle decision. “People always ask me why I’m single,” he explains. “I could have a girlfriend. I’m decent-looking, and I make good money. But some men, including me, choose to be single because we refuse to settle.”
