Tragedy Strikes: UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson Fatally Shot at 50

The business world was left reeling on Wednesday, December 4, as news broke of the tragic shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The 50-year-old executive was gunned down outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, in what police have described as a “premeditated, preplanned targeted attack.”

According to eyewitnesses and surveillance footage, Thompson was walking to a UnitedHealthcare investor meeting when an unidentified shooter approached him from behind and opened fire. The CEO was hit in the calf and back, and despite being rushed to Mount Sinai West Hospital, he was pronounced dead.

The police investigation into Thompson’s murder is ongoing, with detectives scouring the area for evidence and reviewing security footage to identify the shooter. A cell phone, shell casings, and live ammunition were found at the scene, and police believe the shooter used a gun with a silencer.

Thompson’s academic achievements were equally impressive. He graduated valedictorian from the University of Iowa in 1997 and received numerous scholarships and awards for his academic excellence.
