Residents of a small town in the Netherlands recently contacted the police to report a strange occurrence at a neighbor’s house. Despite heavy snowfall in the area, not a single snowflake had accumulated on the roof of the house, sparking suspicion among the neighbors.
Their intuition proved correct, as police officers who arrived at the scene discovered a thriving cannabis farm inside the house. The heat generated by the operation had prevented snow from settling on the roof, giving away the clandestine activity.
The unusual weather conditions have inadvertently helped Dutch authorities crack down on cannabis growers. With the lack of snow on rooftops serving as a giveaway, police have been able to identify and arrest numerous cannabis cultivators.
The owner of the house, where the cannabis farm was discovered, now faces imprisonment. Although the Netherlands has a relatively tolerant attitude toward personal marijuana use, the cultivation of more than five cannabis plants is strictly prohibited.
