Walmart’s Latest Cuts – 22 Stores Closing, Including Chicago Locations

Walmart is saying goodbye to 22 stores this year, and the first confirmed closure is in Richmond, Virginia. The Brook Road location will shut down July 28, with four Chicago stores following soon after.

Why the cuts? Simple—these stores weren’t making enough money. Walmart’s spokesperson thanked customers but explained that the company has to focus on locations that are financially strong.

This isn’t just about Walmart—it’s part of a bigger trend. With more shoppers clicking “buy” online instead of walking into stores, retailers are rethinking how many physical locations they really need.

For employees and regular shoppers, these closures are disappointing. But Walmart isn’t disappearing—it’s just shifting its strategy, putting more energy into e-commerce and keeping only the most profitable stores open.
