When Officer Jason Short received an urgent call about a baby trapped in a hot car, he didn’t hesitate. Racing to the Walmart parking lot, he saw what appeared to be an infant under a blanket in a locked vehicle. With temperatures soaring and no parent in sight, Jason made the split-second decision to break the window.
What happened next was straight out of a comedy sketch – except no one was laughing at first. As Jason carefully lifted the limp form to begin CPR, he noticed something strange. The “baby” wasn’t breathing… because it wasn’t actually a baby at all. The incredibly realistic doll belonged to Carolynne Seiffer, who uses these lifelike figures to cope with the loss of her son.
“I feel humiliated,” Carolynne admitted after finding her $2,000 doll at the center of a police rescue operation. Meanwhile, Officer Short, while slightly embarrassed, has no regrets about his actions. “I truly believed a child’s life was in danger,” he explained. The police department footed the bill for the broken window, turning what could have been a tragedy into a memorable learning experience for everyone involved.
