Katie Piper opened up recently on Instagram about a difficult decision she has taken after years of ongoing eye problems. At 41, Katie revealed she will be trying a prosthetic eye shell as part of her journey following the severe acid attack she endured in 2008.
The attack happened when Katie was only 24. Her then-boyfriend, Daniel Lynch, hired an assailant to throw sulfuric acid in her face, causing severe burns and permanent damage. The couple had been together just two weeks, and the night before the attack, she was reportedly raped. Lynch was later sentenced to life in prison.
Since that horrific injury, Katie has undergone around 400 surgeries and bravely rebuilt her life. She became a campaigner for victims of assault and was honored with an OBE for her charitable work.
Toward the end of 2023, Katie updated fans with a video, sharing that her left eye was struggling with an infection and defect that had become very hard to treat. She spoke about the emotional toll these ongoing health issues have taken on her.
Now, with the continued challenges, Katie has made the courageous choice to explore getting a prosthetic eye shell. She expressed gratitude toward her medical team and the NHS for their support during this new chapter. Katie promised to share more of her experience and welcomed advice from those who have been through something similar.
