On August 7th, a frightening incident occurred aboard Royal Caribbean’s massive cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, when a passenger was seriously injured as a section of the “Frightening Bolt” waterslide cracked while he was sliding down. The break created a sharp, jagged hole in the acrylic glass tubing, causing lacerations to the man’s back and legs.
Passengers onboard witnessed water gushing out from the damaged area and shouted warnings to stop the slide. Fortunately, the injured guest did not fall through the hole and was promptly treated by the ship’s medical team. Royal Caribbean confirmed that the passenger is in stable condition.
The “Frightening Bolt,” a popular thrill ride located on the 16th floor, was immediately closed for the remainder of the voyage while engineers assess the damage. The cruise line is investigating possible causes, including manufacturing flaws or installation problems. Other water attractions on the ship remained open, and passengers noticed increased safety checks following the incident.
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson emphasized that guest and crew safety is their highest priority and that rigorous health and safety protocols are being followed. This rare event has left many shaken, but the company assures the public that they are taking every step to prevent future accidents.
