The Appanoose County community in Iowa was deeply saddened when 17-year-old Ayden Beeson, recently crowned Prom King, drowned just one hour after being reported missing. On June 26, 2024, Ayden went swimming at Rathbun Lake but disappeared beneath the surface and was later found lifeless.
The sheriff’s office and water rescue teams quickly responded following a 911 call. They recovered Ayden’s body in approximately 15 to 20 feet of water, confirming his death on-site.
Ayden was a standout student-athlete at Centerville School, active in football and tennis, and loved by peers and teachers alike. Superintendent Mark Taylor remembered him warmly, calling Ayden a popular and kindhearted young man.
The school district posted a message of condolence, praising his genuine kindness and role within the school community.
Though gone too soon, Ayden’s life and spirit continue to be honored by those who knew him.
