Kevin Bacon’s Journey: From $150-a-Month Apartment to Country Farm Life with Wife Kyra Sedgwick

Kevin Bacon’s early life as a struggling actor could not be more different from his current peaceful farm lifestyle alongside his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick. Back in 1976, fresh from Philadelphia, Kevin moved to New York City chasing his acting dreams. He found an affordable and modest place through a Village Voice ad — a shared apartment with a classical pianist, costing just $150 a month.

Despite the simplicity of those days, Bacon fondly remembers the soothing piano melodies that filled their tiny apartment and nurtured his artistic ambitions. He performed at the Circle in the Square Theater School, eager for authentic life experiences beyond just business and practicality.

Today, Kevin and Kyra live on a 40-acre farm in Sharon, Connecticut, surrounded by goats, pigs, alpacas, and miniature horses. “I love animals; they bring me joy and calm,” he shared. Their farm also includes a flourishing garden where they harvest fresh herbs, tomatoes, peppers, and zucchini, embracing a natural lifestyle far from New York’s hustle.

Kevin acknowledges how much he learned from his frugal roommate about cooking simple meals — a skill he lacked when living on the go. That frugality and self-reliance inspired him then, just as farm life re-connects him to the basics of living today.

Both Kevin and Kyra frequently share glimpses into their farm life on social media. Kyra’s TikTok videos starring their goats have become wildly popular, sometimes overshadowing her acting career. “People love the goat videos and we chuckle, ‘Have you seen our shows?’” she said.

Their close bond with animals has also transformed Kevin’s eating habits, leading him to avoid meat from his own farm. Kyra playfully keeps him from adding more animals to the family, fearing he might stop eating even more foods.

Kevin and Kyra join other celebrities like Jennifer Garner, who has embraced farm life and organic agriculture, showing a shift many stars make from the fast-paced entertainment world to a slower, soulful connection with nature.

What do you think of celebrities choosing farm life as a new chapter? Could it be a refreshing change from Hollywood’s spotlight? Share your thoughts in the comments!
