Reports reveal that Christian Brueckner, the German man considered the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, could be released from prison in less than two weeks. Madeleine vanished in Portugal in 2007, sparking one of the most extensive investigations in recent history. Despite intense scrutiny, no formal charges have ever been brought against Brueckner relating to her disappearance, though authorities remain convinced of his involvement.
Brueckner is currently serving a seven-year sentence for the 2005 rape of a 72-year-old woman in Portugal, a crime captured on camera, and is expected to be released by September 17. German and Portuguese police have launched fresh searches in the Algarve region near where Brueckner once lived, using ground radar to scan areas around his former residence to uncover new evidence.
Investigators know that Brueckner was in the area at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance and remain confident in his guilt. However, they have said the evidence collected so far is not strong enough to guarantee a conviction. Meanwhile, Brueckner’s legal team denies any knowledge of his early release, and it is unclear whether he will be closely monitored once freed. Authorities are considering judicial supervision measures to restrict his movements and protect public safety.
