For more than ten years, Cheryl Murray lived with a painful lump on her foot, keeping it secret even from her partner. What started as an uncomfortable bump when she was just 15 was initially dismissed by doctors as a minor injury, but the lump grew steadily and became very painful.
Cheryl hid the lump out of embarrassment, but when she moved in with her boyfriend David, he noticed the swelling and urged her to see a doctor. Tests revealed the lump was an aggressive and rare type of cancer called sarcoma. To stop it from spreading, Cheryl had to have her lower leg amputated, a devastating but life-saving decision.
Throughout the ordeal, David supported Cheryl and even proposed to her before her surgery. Cheryl credits his love and strength for helping her through the darkest times.
Her story is a powerful reminder to listen to your body and seek help when something feels wrong. Cheryl says, “If I hadn’t shown him the lump, I probably would have waited much longer.” Don’t ignore strange symptoms—your life could depend on it.
