Brigitte Bardot’s Struggles with Motherhood and Years of Estrangement from Son

Brigitte Bardot, the iconic French actress, openly admitted to never having the maternal instinct, a fact she partly attributed to her son Nicolas-Jacques Charrier. Born in 1960 from Bardot’s relationship with actor Jacques Charrier, Nicolas was not initially welcomed by his mother.

Bardot described her pregnancy as a painful ordeal and confessed she did not want to see her newborn son. Their relationship remained strained, resulting in decades of limited contact. Nicolas was raised largely by his paternal grandmother, and Bardot focused on her independence.

Later in life, they began to reconcile partially, with Nicolas visiting Bardot and sharing family moments, despite the emotional wounds of the past. Bardot has spoken about a special kind of love she now feels for her son, despite their differences.
