Annie Windley, a young woman from Derbyshire, England, has bravely shared her harrowing experience of battling an eating disorder that left her surviving on almost nothing for five years. At her lowest, Annie weighed no more than 29 kilograms (63 pounds) and faced life-threatening medical complications.
Diagnosed with anorexia in 2012, Annie’s battle was long and painful, filled with multiple hospitalizations and intensive treatments. Yet throughout her darkest days, she found strength in her love of running—transforming her life by redirecting destructive energy into healing.
In October 2024, Annie completed the Chesterfield Half Marathon, a testament to her perseverance and recovery. Reflecting on that arduous journey, she now views rehabilitation as a “breathtaking process” that is both challenging and unforgettable.
Annie recently shared on social media, “I’ve learned to control my anorexia and not obsess about food. Changing for the better is never too late.” Her message is one of hope to others facing similar struggles, emphasizing the importance of self-love, kindness to others, and pursuing passions that bring joy.
Though her road to recovery remains ongoing, Annie is determined to live a healthier life and inspire others to break free from the grip of eating disorders.
