From a School Bus to a Homestead: One Woman’s Journey to a Cozy Home

In a world that often feels rushed and complicated, the story of one woman, known online as Mama V, offers a powerful lesson in resilience and the beauty of a simpler life. After years of battling anxiety and navigating a difficult past, she made a radical decision to leave city life behind. Her journey began with a six-year adventure living and traveling across the United States in a converted mini school bus, a period that allowed her to rediscover her own strength and what truly mattered to her.

Eventually, Mama V felt ready to put down roots. She settled on a piece of land in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas, embracing an off-grid lifestyle far from the conveniences of the city. Her dream was to build her own tiny log cabin, a project she undertook while continuing to live in her RV. She was not alone in her endeavor; her growing family of rescue cats and dogs provided constant companionship and motivation throughout the challenging process.

As her homestead, which she named Possum Run, began to take shape with a shed, chicken coop, and rabbit hutch, her living quarters in the bus became increasingly cramped. The need for more space was clear, but the solution arrived in an unexpected and generous way. A kind neighbor offered her an old, neglected camping trailer that had been sitting unused on his property for years, seeing an opportunity to help her continue her dream.

The trailer, a 1980s model, was structurally sound but desperately needed deep cleaning and renovation. With the help of friends who assisted with moving and a monumental cleaning effort that removed years of grime and thousands of dead wasps, the space was transformed. To her delight, the camper was filled with functional surprises, including a full kitchen, a bathroom with a tub, and comfortable sleeping areas. This cozy, temporary home became the perfect basecamp as she continues to build her permanent cabin, a testament to community, determination, and the courage to build a life on your own terms.
