Prince Harry’s recent speech at the Invictus Games is being viewed as an indirect but meaningful response to Donald Trump’s latest remarks about Meghan Markle. While he didn’t mention Trump directly, his words seemed to carry a message that resonated with those following the situation.
Harry and Meghan attended the Invictus Games in Vancouver, a sporting event for wounded veterans that Harry founded in 2014. The latest edition saw 500 participants compete over nine days. However, beyond the sportsmanship and camaraderie, it was Harry’s speech that captured attention, as it appeared to subtly respond to Trump’s controversial comments.
Trump was recently asked if he would consider deporting Prince Harry back to the UK, given the controversy over his immigration status. The Heritage Foundation had raised concerns that Harry may have misrepresented his history of drug use on his U.S. visa application. In his 2023 memoir Spare, Harry openly admitted to using drugs such as cocaine, cannabis, and hallucinogenic mushrooms. However, Trump dismissed the idea of deportation, stating that he wasn’t interested in sending Harry back.
In an interview with the New York Post, Trump made a remark that stirred controversy, saying, “I’ll leave him alone. He already has a few issues to deal with with his wife. She is a bad person.” His blunt statement was perceived as an attack on Meghan Markle’s character.
At the Invictus Games, Harry delivered a heartfelt speech that many believe contained a subtle response. Addressing the crowd at BC Stadium in Vancouver, he said, “At this moment, when there is no shortage of crises, no absence of uncertainty, and no lack of weak moral character in the world, the values you embody… your bravery, your resiliency, and your humanity illuminate a path forward for all of us.” His use of the phrase “weak moral character” stood out, leading many to speculate that it was a veiled remark directed at Trump.
This isn’t the first time Trump has commented on Meghan. In a 2019 interview, he called her “nice” but also recalled referring to her as “nasty” due to her past remarks about him. He later clarified that he was talking about her comments rather than her personality. However, given his most recent description of her as “bad,” it’s clear that his opinion of Meghan remains negative. The ongoing exchange between Trump and the Sussexes continues to make headlines, with Prince Harry choosing to respond in his own composed and dignified manner.
