A Humorous Encounter at the Airport

An 83-year-old British gentleman arrived in Paris, excited for his trip. As he rummaged through his bag for his passport, a French customs officer asked sharply, “Have you been to France before?” The man nodded and replied, “Yes, I have.”

With a touch of sarcasm, the officer said, “Then you should know to have your passport ready, sir.” The gentleman, calm and collected, responded, “I didn’t have to show it last time.”

“Impossible!” the officer insisted. “The British have always had to show their passports here.” Leaning in slightly, the gentleman whispered, “Well, when I landed on the beach on D-Day in 1944, I couldn’t find any Frenchmen to show it to.”

The officer was left speechless, and the gentleman continued on his way, a subtle reminder of the sacrifices made by his generation.
