In a candid interview on the “Sage Steele Podcast,” Kathie Lee Gifford revealed how Donald Trump played a pivotal role in protecting her and her daughter during a life-threatening situation in the 1990s. The TV host and singer-songwriter recounted the harrowing incident, which occurred while she was preparing to host the Miss America Pageant.
At the time, Kathie was with her newborn daughter when the FBI informed her husband, Frank Gifford, that a dangerous criminal was targeting her. The FBI advised Frank to act normally to avoid alerting the suspect, but he was deeply concerned for his wife’s safety. In a moment of desperation, Frank turned to Donald Trump for help.
Trump’s response was swift and unwavering. “Don’t worry about it, Frank. Your girls are with me,” he said. He immediately dispatched a team of security guards to protect Kathie and arranged for his private helicopter to ensure her safe return home. Armed guards were stationed outside her hotel room, providing 24-hour protection.
Kathie admitted she was unaware of the full extent of the danger until she saw a newspaper headline about the death threat against her. Despite the shock, she refused to back down. “Hell no!” she said when asked if she wanted to withdraw from hosting the pageant. “I won’t be terrified of anyone.”
The event went on as planned, and Kathie was safely escorted home afterward. Reflecting on the experience, she expressed her enduring gratitude for Trump. “My daughter’s life was saved by Donald,” she said. “He would do it again if I called him today.”
