Kayla was ready to go home. After attending her grandmother’s funeral, she was emotionally and physically drained. At six months pregnant, all she wanted was to return to her husband, Colin, and the comfort of her own bed. Her mother had urged her to stay longer, but Kayla knew she needed to get back to her responsibilities.
As she boarded the plane, Kayla tried to relax, hoping for a smooth flight. She exchanged polite smiles with the flight attendant and the woman sitting next to her, who shared her dislike for flying. But as the plane took off, Kayla couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was watching her. Glancing back, she noticed a man a few rows behind, his eyes fixed on her. She brushed it off, assuming it was just a stranger’s curiosity.
Her sense of calm was shattered when a flight attendant approached her with a stern expression. “Excuse me, ma’am. Could you please come with me?” she said, her tone leaving no room for argument. Confused and anxious, Kayla followed, only to be told to kneel.
“What? Why? What’s happening?” Kayla stammered, her heart racing. The man who had been watching her stepped forward, accusing her of stealing a golden necklace. Kayla was stunned. “I’m innocent! I’m just returning from my grandmother’s funeral!” she protested.
The man showed her photographs of a woman who bore a striking resemblance to her, but Kayla pointed out a key difference. “Look, I don’t have any tattoos or scars! I’m pregnant! I’m not the person you’re looking for!” she pleaded.
Just then, her baby kicked, and in a moment of desperation, Kayla placed the man’s hand on her belly. “You can’t fake this!” she insisted. The man’s expression softened as he realized his mistake. But before they could breathe a sigh of relief, the flight attendant pulled out a gun, ordering them both to comply.
In a split second, Kayla acted on instinct. She kicked the flight attendant, causing her to stumble and drop the weapon. The man quickly tackled her, revealing the stolen necklace hidden in her uniform. “She’s the real thief!” he declared.
As the chaos subsided, the man introduced himself as Detective Connor. He apologized for the misunderstanding, explaining that they had been tracking the thief for months and had mistaken Kayla for the suspect due to her resemblance.
When the plane landed, authorities were waiting to arrest the flight attendant. Kayla stepped off the plane, relieved to see Colin waiting for her with a bouquet of yellow tulips and a warm smile. “Welcome home,” he said, pulling her into a comforting embrace.
Back at home, Kayla recounted the harrowing experience to Colin, who listened with concern. “Are you okay? Should we see a doctor?” he asked. Kayla reassured him, “I’m fine. I just wanted to come back to you.”
As Colin placed his hands on her belly and kissed it, Kayla felt a wave of gratitude. Despite the ordeal, she was safe, and her little family was together.
