Wolcottville residents are coming to terms with the heartbreaking loss of a young mother and her three daughters. Rebecca Hughes and her girls – Evalynn, Allison, and Amelia – were found deceased in their home on September 17 during a welfare check. With the investigation ongoing and autopsy results pending, the tight-knit community has focused on supporting the surviving family members.
Jonathan Newell, father to the three girls, spoke candidly about his grief journey. He described the initial disbelief when concerns were first raised, telling his mother not to worry before learning the devastating truth. “The emotions change by the minute,” Jonathan explained. “One moment you’re furious, the next you’re drowning in sorrow, and sometimes you just feel completely empty.”
The community’s response has been a bright spot in the darkness, with generous donations pouring in to help with funeral costs. Jonathan, moved by the support, sees this as his last opportunity to care for his daughters. Even in his pain, he’s determined to help others, emphasizing the importance of mental health resources for parents who may be struggling silently.
