Family of Five Among Victims in Hudson River Helicopter Crash

A New York sightseeing helicopter plunged into the Hudson River after the pilot reported low fuel, killing all six on board, including a family of five. The crash occurred on April 10, with witnesses describing the aircraft breaking apart mid-air before crashing near Pier 40.

The victims were identified as Agustin Escobar, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, their three young children, and the pilot. Escobar, a top executive at Siemens Mobility, had just arrived in New York with his family. The helicopter had taken off for a tour of the Statue of Liberty and Hudson River.

Tragically, minutes into the flight, the pilot radioed that he needed fuel and was returning. Michael Roth, owner of New York Helicopter, said the pilot never made it back. “We’re devastated,” Roth shared, calling the loss of children especially heartbreaking.

Videos show the helicopter’s tail and rotors separating before the crash. Roth admitted he didn’t know the cause but confirmed the main rotor blades were missing in the footage.

Photos of the family before the flight have been widely shared, adding to the sorrow. Witnesses recalled the horrifying moment the helicopter split and crashed. Authorities confirmed the aircraft lost control before impact.

This tragedy has left many in shock. Our deepest sympathies go to the families affected.
