Richard Gere, the silver-screen legend who charmed audiences in Pretty Woman and Chicago, is leaving America behind. The actor, now 74, has announced he’s relocating to Spain with his wife, Alejandra Silva, and their two young sons—a decision driven by love, culture, and a desire for a simpler life.
Gere, who married Silva in 2018, said the move was a long time coming. “Alejandra has lived in my world for years,” he explained. “Now, I’m excited to fully immerse myself in hers.”
Spain’s rich culture and warm people were major draws. “The lifestyle there is incredible,” Gere shared. “The food, the laughter, the way people prioritize happiness—it’s something I want my children to experience.”
To make the transition, the couple sold their Connecticut countryside home, which they’d purchased from Paul Simon. Though they took a slight loss, Gere saw it as a small price for a fresh start.
The actor has always preferred privacy over Hollywood’s flashiness, opting for meditation and family time over red carpets. Now, in Madrid, he’ll have even more space to focus on what truly matters—raising his sons, deepening his spiritual practice, and enjoying life’s quieter pleasures.
After a legendary career, Gere’s final act might just be his most meaningful yet: a life well-lived, far from the spotlight.
