Retired Couple Ditches House for Life at Sea on Luxury Cruise

Forget retirement communities—Lynn and Paul chose the open sea. The couple sold everything they owned to live full-time on a luxury cruise ship for the next 15 years, spending an estimated $1.2 million on their floating home.

“We didn’t want to look back and regret not seeing the world,” Paul told reporters. After decades of work and short vacations, they decided to make travel their lifestyle. Their cabin on the Villa Vie Odyssey cost nearly $180,000, with monthly fees covering all amenities.

While some might balk at the expense, the couple sees it as a smart trade. “We no longer pay property taxes, home maintenance, or even gym memberships,” Lynn laughed. “The ship has it all.”

Their itinerary includes over 150 countries, with extended stops allowing for inland adventures. Family visits are encouraged—their daughter already joined them in Mexico.

Though the ship’s journey lasts until 2035, Lynn and Paul haven’t ruled out continuing further. “Who knows?” Paul mused. “Maybe we’ll find a new favorite place to settle—or just keep sailing.”
