Carer Sings Dying Woman’s Favorite Hymn to Fulfill Her Last Wish

Maria, a former singing and piano teacher, spent her final days in a care home in Austinburg, Ohio. As she approached the end of her life, she deeply missed being surrounded by music. Her greatest wish was simple but meaningful—she longed to hear the hymn “How Great Thou Art” one last time.

Fortunately, Joshua Woodard, one of Maria’s former students from when he was just nine years old, worked at the care facility. Knowing how much the song meant to her, Joshua was determined to make her final wish come true. Holding the lyrics on his phone, he sang the hymn with heartfelt emotion, creating a touching moment of connection and comfort.

The scene was captured by Maria’s sister-in-law, and it touched many hearts. Marti Adkins Redmond, reflecting on the moment, praised hospice workers and especially Joshua for their kindness. Tragically, Maria has since passed away, making this beautiful tribute even more poignant.

This story reminds us of the powerful bond between teacher and student and the deep impact compassionate caregivers have on those in their care. It’s a celebration of music, memory, and kindness in life’s most vulnerable moments.
