Emma Stone Shares Her Belief in Aliens and the Feeling of Living Behind a Mask

Emma Stone, known for her roles in films like Spider-Man and Zombieland, recently revealed that her belief in extraterrestrial life goes beyond fiction. Speaking at the Venice Film Festival about her new sci-fi comedy Bugonia, she openly declared, “Yes, I believe in aliens!”

In Bugonia, Stone plays a CEO who becomes the target of two conspiracy-obsessed men convinced she’s an alien planning to destroy Earth. This plot prompted reporters to ask Stone about her thoughts on aliens, and she didn’t hold back.

She shared how astronomer Carl Sagan inspired her. Stone admires Sagan’s brilliant philosophy and scientific approach, particularly his view that thinking life exists only on Earth is “pretty narcissistic.”

Stone explained, “Believing we’re alone in this vast universe is quite big-headed,” echoing Sagan’s ideas about the probability of life beyond Earth.

When asked if being a celebrity makes her feel alien-like, Stone responded with a playful twist: “How do you know I’m not an alien?” She elaborated, discussing the challenge of living under public scrutiny—there’s the “avatar” people see and the person she is among friends and family. Though they are the same person, managing those two sides helps her stay grounded.

Her candid reflections revealed both a fascination with the unknown and an insight into the complexities of fame and identity.
