Eloise Peck’s Mother Shares Heartfelt Signs and Hope After Tragic Texas Camp Flood

Eloise Peck was just eight years old when she tragically lost her life during the devastating floods that struck Central Texas in July 2025. The young girl was attending Camp Mystic—a Christian summer camp along the Guadalupe River—when unprecedented rains caused the river to overflow, sweeping through the area and resulting in one of the deadliest floods in the region’s history.

Eloise was one of 27 campers and counselors who tragically lost their lives, leaving a grieving community behind. Her mother, Missy Peck, has been struggling to cope with her loss but says that she has received precious signs that reassure her Eloise is now with God. During a particularly emotional evening spent around a bonfire, Missy noticed a clear “E” in the sky, which she interprets as a message from her daughter—a comforting connection in the midst of heartbreak.

Eloise’s best friend at Camp Mystic, nine-year-old Lila Bonner, also passed away during the flood. Lila’s mother, Caitlin Bonner, has spoken of her own touching signs of comfort, including ladybugs appearing inside their home and on their porch in moments that felt like messages from Lila. Both families have joined forces as part of the Heaven’s 27 Foundation, advocating for the Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act, legislation aimed at improving protection and safety at camps along the Guadalupe River.

While nothing can replace Eloise or Lila, the families hope to honor their memories by ensuring that future campers are safer and that such tragedies never happen again. Their story is a poignant reminder of life’s fragility and the power of faith and community in healing.
