Scientists Warn Eating Ramen Three or More Times a Week May Raise Early Death Risk

A comprehensive study by researchers at Yamagata University in Japan highlights alarming health risks associated with frequent ramen consumption. Tracking over 6,500 adults aged 40 and above for four and a half years, the study found that men under 70 years old who ate ramen three or more times weekly had an increased risk of death, particularly from cancer and heart disease.

The study noted that ramen’s high salt content, combined with consuming a majority of the salty broth and concurrent alcohol intake, significantly heightened mortality risk. The data also linked frequent ramen eaters with other risk factors such as smoking, overweight, and diabetes.

Although the study was observational and did not establish direct causation, scientists advise moderation in ramen consumption, especially avoiding finishing most of the broth and limiting alcohol intake to reduce the threat of salt-related diseases like stroke and gastric cancer.
