Tesla Owner Reveals Shocking Savings on Charging Compared to Gas

A Tesla Model 3 owner recently shared eye-opening details on how much money he saved charging his electric vehicle compared to fueling a gas car. Over the course of a year, the driver traveled more than 13,000 kilometers (over 8,200 miles), mostly charging his Tesla at home during off-peak hours to reduce electricity costs.

Charging 93% of the time overnight, his total annual charging cost was only about $170 USD, averaging just over $14 per month. In contrast, before switching to electric, he spent around $41 per month on gas.

Public charging stations accounted for roughly $114 of his annual spend, bringing the total yearly cost to $285 USD. By comparison, driving the same distance in a gas vehicle would have cost him more than $3,400 NZD at then-current fuel prices.
