New Covid variants named ‘Stratus’ and ‘Nimbus’ are spreading rapidly across the United States, causing a resurgence of infections during the autumn season. Health experts report that although most cases remain mild, certain symptoms linked to these strains are noteworthy.
Dr. Sara, speaking on ITV’s This Morning, explained that the Stratus variant accounts for 63% of cases, while Nimbus represents around 25%. Both variants cause common Covid symptoms like headache, fatigue, and loss of taste or smell, but also unusual signs such as a hoarse voice and a “razor blade” sore throat.
Medical experts, including former New York City chief medical officer Dr. Tyler Evans, have cautioned vulnerable groups—such as older adults and those with weakened immune systems—to remain cautious. Despite the rise in cases, the overall severity remains similar to previous variants.
