Balin Miller, a promising young climber and social media influencer known for his energetic personality and daring ascents, died at age 23 after a fall at Yosemite National Park’s iconic El Capitan on October 1. Miller was live streaming his climb along the challenging 2,400-foot “Sea of Dreams” route when the accident occurred.

Eyewitness Tom Evans, present at Yosemite, reported Miller appeared unaware his rope was too short to reach a stuck bag of gear. In his attempt to retrieve it, Miller rappelled off the end of his rope, leading to a fatal fall. The incident was livestreamed, shocking thousands of viewers who had followed Miller’s climbs for days.
