Eric Dane, beloved for his role as “McSteamy” on Grey’s Anatomy, was set to reunite with his castmates at the 2025 Emmy Awards but was notably absent due to a hospitalization caused by a fall linked to his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Diagnosed with the progressive neurological disease in April 2025, Dane has been open about its impact. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, gradually robs patients of muscle control, leading to difficulties with walking, speaking, and breathing. Dane explained in an interview that his right arm has already lost function, and his condition is worsening.
Prior to the Emmys, Dane suffered a hard fall in his kitchen, resulting in head injuries requiring stitches and hospital treatment, which forced him to miss what would have been a meaningful reunion moment.
Despite the setbacks, Dane remains resilient. He continues advocating for ALS research, hoping his story brings awareness and support to others affected by the disease.
