Brazilian fashion influencer Adair Mendes Dutra Junior, known as Junior Dutra on social media, died on October 3 at the age of 31 after suffering complications following a popular cosmetic procedure called “fox eyes” surgery. The procedure, designed to lift and elongate the outer corners of the eyes for a feline-like appearance, has been heavily popularized by celebrities and social media trends.
Junior underwent the surgery in March, reportedly performed by a well-known dentist, Dr. Fernando Garbi. Shortly after the procedure, he publicly shared photos and videos showing significant swelling, bruising, and redness around his eyes. Over time, he developed a serious infection that caused discomfort and breathing difficulties. On October 3, after his condition worsened, Junior was rushed to a public hospital in São Paulo, where he tragically passed away.
Before his death, Junior filed a lawsuit against the surgeon alleging malpractice, fraud, and bodily injury. However, Garbi’s legal team has denied any connection to Junior’s death, asserting the allegations are false and threatening legal action against those spreading misinformation.
Junior’s close friend described his final days as difficult, recalling his illness and struggle to breathe. The tragedy has reignited concerns about the safety and regulation of cosmetic procedures driven by viral social media trends.
