The Old Man’s Christmas Divorce Call That Surprised His Family

On the day before Christmas Eve, a man in Minneapolis made a surprising call to his son who lived in Chicago. With a heavy heart, he broke the shocking news: after 45 years of marriage, he and his wife were finally divorcing. “Forty-five years of misery is enough,” he declared. His son, startled and confused, exclaimed, “Dad, what are you talking about?”

The man explained that he and his wife couldn’t stand the sight of each other anymore. “I’m sick of her face, and I’m sick of talking about this—so call your sister and tell her,” he said, before abruptly hanging up.

The son, worried, immediately called his sister to inform her. She refused to believe the news. “Like hell they’re getting divorced!” she shouted. Determined to stop the divorce, she called their father right away. “You’re not getting divorced! Don’t do a single thing. Your sister and I are flying home tomorrow to talk this through. And until then, no lawyers, no paperwork. DO YOU HEAR ME?” she said before hanging up.

The old man calmly turned to his wife and said, “Okay, they’re both coming for Christmas—and paying their own airfares.” The family, used to their banter and long history of ups and downs, knew this was just another chapter in their ongoing saga.
