Bob thought his elderly neighbor would be an easy target. He was wrong.
When 91-year-old Dolores noticed her unemployed neighbor lurking around her property, her instincts screamed danger. After catching Bob and another man in her backyard, she took action—installing cameras and reinforcing locks.
But the real test came at midnight when the burglars returned. With remarkable presence of mind, Dolores called 911 first, then set an ingenious trap.
“Vernon, darling,” she called out near an open window, “all your precious antiques are still safe in the garage—that gold watch, the silver flute—worth a fortune!”
The burglars took the bait. As they rushed to the garage, Dolores locked them inside, using gas spray to keep them subdued until police arrived.
Officer Robinson couldn’t believe his eyes when the masks came off. “You knew one of them?” he asked Dolores.
“Of course,” she replied. “That’s Bob from next door. I’ve been watching him watching me.”
Now running her late husband’s antique shop with her daughter-in-law, Dolores has a new name for the business: “Dolores and Vernon’s Treasure House”—a fitting tribute to the love that gave her courage.
