Skydiving Instructor Devrey LaRiccia-Chase Dies in Rare Landing Accident

The skydiving world is reeling from the loss of Devrey LaRiccia-Chase, a 28-year-old instructor who died after a tragic accident at Skydive Perris in California. Devrey was caught in an extremely rare “dust devil” during her landing—a small but intense whirlwind that caused her parachute to spiral violently. While she initially survived the fall, her injuries proved fatal.

Her husband, Freddy Chase, shared a heartbreaking tribute, calling her his “everything.” In response, the skydiving community has rallied around her family, raising more than $53,000 through a GoFundMe to bring her back to Maine for burial.

Devrey’s fearless spirit and dedication to skydiving left an indelible mark on those who trained with her. She will be deeply missed.
