Texas School Faces Backlash Over Murder Suspect’s Graduation Status

A Texas high school’s decision to grant a diploma to a student accused of murder has left a grieving family questioning the district’s priorities. The controversy stems from the April stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a track meet, where classmate Karmelo Anthony allegedly pulled a knife during a confrontation.

Austin’s father Jeffrey Metcalf expressed disbelief that the Frisco Independent School District would “reward” his son’s accused killer with a graduation certificate. School officials clarified Anthony will receive his diploma through an early graduation arrangement but won’t participate in ceremonies due to house arrest conditions. The painful divide between the families became evident during a recent press conference where Anthony’s parents claimed their son acted in self-defense, while Metcalf says he was removed by police when attempting to engage.
